The president of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Tomislav Karamarko, said on Wednesday that Jadranka Kosor's statements to the press were not detrimental to the party but to Kosor, given that the party was growing ahead of local elections.
"She has not stopped talking since she lost the party elections and in the party nobody is banning anyone from doing anything," Karamarko said, refuting Kosor's accusations in a weekly that Karamarko was banning her from talking.
Karamarko said that such statements were not being made by someone who was loyal to the party, but someone who was independent or by someone very dependent.
Recalling the times when Kosor was at the helm of the HDZ, Karamarko said nobody had dared to make similar statements and go unpunished.
"These are clearly some frustrations. I wouldn't go into details or even argue with her. However, I don't wish to prejudge if this matter will be discussed by the (party's) court of honor, we will know this within several days," Karamarko told the press in parliament.
He also dismissed media speculation that it was decided that the party candidate for Zagreb mayor would be Magareta Madjeric to indirectly support Milan Bandic.
"Mrs Madjeric has served two terms in the city assembly already. She is well-versed and knows a lot about the problems of the Zagreb Holding company. A lot of names had been considered, but in the end we opted for a new face," Karamarko said, adding that Madjeric would be a great surprise.
