Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic won the Claro Open Colombia on Sunday, preventing hometown favorite Alejandro Falla's attempt to win first ATP Tour title.

This was the first ATP world Tour title in five years for the 34-year-old Karlovic. He defeated Falla 6-3, 7-6 (4) for his fifth career title. Karlovic missed three months this season because of viral meningitis, returning this month at Newport.

Earlier this year, Karlovic suffered from viral meningitis, which was not immediately diagnosed. He was unconscious for some time, and when he woke up, he didn't know his name or what year it was After a lengthy recovery, he was able to play again in Newport in July, where he made it to the quarterfinals, before being defeated by John Isner in one of their typical ace-fests.
