Anyone who cares for Bosnia and Herzegovina will take up arms and defend the country if Republika Srpska (RS) - the Serb entity in that country - attempts to secede, Bosnia and Herzegovina's presidency chairman Zeljko Komsic said in an interview for Saturday's edition of the Sarajevo daily Oslobodjenje.

Replying to a direct question, what would happen if incumbent RS president Milorad Dodik indeed attempts to realise his threats to secede that entity, Komsic said that in that case not only would Bosniaks defend the country but many more people would, including himself.

"Anyone who thinks that this won't be the case if they do attempt to secede a part of the country is a fool", he said recalling the events between 1992 and 1995.

"Dissecting the country would lead to certain war. And that is why that is foolish politics. Everything goes, we can talk about everything except whether Bosnia and Herzegovina should remain whole or not", Komsic said.

He assessed the situation in the country to be generally concerning adding though that there was a way out.

Commenting on current relations by the international community toward Bosnia and Herzegovina, Komsic said that apart from the US, there is no "thought out policy" there but rather just interests of individual countries which relate not just to Bosnia and Herzegovina but much wider.

"I think that the US is the most concerned for us. Or at least they are the fairest when it comes to us", he said, explaining that even though Bosnia is not of any strategic interest to Washington, in its relations to Bosnia, the United States insist on values that the US itself is organised upon.
