Supermarket retail chain Konzum, a subsidiary of Croatia's largest privately owned company Agrokor, plans to branch out from the food business by opening its first gas station in Zagreb.

Konzum plans to open several gas stations. The first in a series it will open in early March, next to one of its new mega supermarkets in the Croatian capital in early March,

All Konzum gas stations will be built as a new stand-alone facility on the parking lots of the big Konzum supermarkets, and will operate on the principle of self-service and will be fully automated, Konzum officials said adding that their goal is to offer customers a number of important services all in one place.

The trend of opening petrol stations alongside the supermarkets came from the U.S. and has spread to Europe (Sainsbury, ASDA, Tesco, Safeway, etc.).
