Prime Minister and president of the ruling HDZ Jadranka Kosor would neither confirm nor deny on Saturday evening Croatian Television's unofficial information earlier today that the ruling party's property had been blocked at the request of the State Prosecutor's Office.
"Ask the sources from whom you got the information for a confirmation. You know who alone can confirm or deny that, and I must comply with Croatian laws and regulations," Kosor told reporters outside the party's headquarters where, according to the media, she came after a news report that the HDZ's property had been blocked.
She told the press "this won't discourage the party." "This is indeed a difficult time, but we will come out of it and remain the first in the fight against corruption and crime."
Kosor extended full support to independent institutions to do their job towards everyone and in all directions, saying this was what the HDZ had committed to.
"We are now bearing the brunt of the fight against corruption, but I'm sure that everything will fall into place."
Kosor reiterated she firmly supported the clampdown on corruption and that nothing would stop the HDZ from running in the coming parliamentary election.
"The struggle is difficult and I know that I have personally made a big contribution and I am completely calm and nothing will stop us from running in the election."
Kosor said she would like the HDZ to have equal access, in the media and in every other sense, and to enter an equal political battle. But, she added, the situation was what it was and that the party was ready for the campaign and the rest.
