Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said on Saturday that statement which former deputy prime minister Damir Polancec made on Friday was "an attempt to stop the fight against corruption" and that it showed that there was "a parallel system" in Croatia.
"This is indicated by Polancec's statement that he held meetings with Ivo Sanader at the time Sanader was not holding an office, and Polancec spoke to him in his capacity as deputy prime minister and economy minister without my knowledge," Kosor said commenting on a press conference at which Polancec said that chief of police Oliver Grbic told him that a number of anonymous charges had been pressed against Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) politicians and that the HDZ leadership should strike back by pressing charges against Opposition leaders.
"If the chief of police had called him, then Polancec should have informed me about it," Kosor said.
Alluding to a recent meeting between Polancec and Slavko Linic reported by some media, PM Kosovo said "one coffee does wonders".
Coffee keeps people awake, new friendships are made over coffee, new connections established," Kosor said.
She said all of this would be amusing should if it was not aimed at stopping the fight against corruption and crime and halting Croatia's EU entry talks.
