Calling for unity among Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) members, party president Jadranka Kosor said at the HDZ convention in Zagreb on Sunday that the HDZ was ready to apologise for an inappropriate word or gesture, adding however that those from the Opposition who did not vote for Croatia's independence in 1991 should apologise to them and to the entire Croatian people.
Speaking at the HDZ convention for Constituency No. 1, Kosor said that even today the HDZ was adopting laws and doing things which the Opposition had no courage to do, notably when it came to the fight against corruption.
During her speech, Kosor greeted Croatian war veterans and disabled veterans several times, notably retired Army generals who attended the convention. Among others, the convention was attended by Ljubo Cesic Rojs, Marinko Kresic, Davorin Domazet-Loso.
Kosor stressed the HDZ would not allowed history to be revised. She commented on the recently adopted law invalidating war crimes indictments from the former Yugoslavia and Serbia, saying that everybody was criticising the law but that the law would not harm good-neighbourly relations for which Franjo Tudjman opted in the most difficult times of war.
The coordinator for Constituency No. 1, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Gordan Jandrokovic, said the HDZ had realised all of its strategic national objectives over the past 20 year, adding that those attacking the HDZ would not succeed.
