Croatian Prime Minister told Pope Benedict XVI during a brief meeting at the end of the beatification of John Paul II in Vatican City on Sunday that Croatia was eagerly awaiting his visit on June 4-5.

Kosor said that the beatification was a special event for the whole world and especially for Croatia because of close ties between the late pontiff and Croatia, which he had visited three times.

The Croatian prime minister also met briefly with her French counterpart Francois Fillon. They talked about the completion of Croatia's EU accession negotiations, and Fillon expressed French support for their speedy conclusion.

Kosor was leading the Croatian delegation to the beatification ceremony, which was also attended by dozens of heads of state or government and senior EU officials, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and European Council President Herman van Rompuy.

Over a million pilgrims, including thousands from Croatia, congregated in St Peter's Square for the occasion.
