The president of the Croatian Labour party, Dragutin Lesar, has pressed criminal charges against Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic because of the government's announcement of the privatisation of important state-owned companies without a state property management strategy, which is to be adopted by parliament.
Lesar pressed the charges on Thursday and on Friday he informed reporters in the parliament that the Labour Party had warned the government on several occasions since August that it had a legal obligation to propose the state property management strategy to parliament.
The government, however, ignored those warnings, Lesar said.
"The only way to protect the interest of Croatia's citizens is to press criminal charges," Lesar said, adding that the party was now waiting for a response from the State Prosecutor's Office.
Milanovic, who is on a visit to Brussels, declined to comment on Lesar's charges against him.
"No, I am a serious man... and I can talk to serious people," Milanovic briefly told the press.
