Finance Minister Slavko Linic said on Saturday that the social policy of cheap energy for all was untenable.
Linic was speaking to reporters before a meeting of the main board of his Social Democratic Party. When asked if there would be more price increases, he said that that did not depend on the Ministry of Finance.
Energy prices will be similar to those in Europe, because we import most of our energy products, the minister said.
Linic said that the adverse effects of price hikes on low-income families should be cushioned by welfare programs of local government units or the central government, while the others who did not need welfare benefits would pay the cost of energy.
