The story about Ivan Rakitic’s status in Bundesliga side Schalke ’04 has been an ongoing tale since the start of the season. The Croatian international midfielder’s contract with the Gelsenkirchen club runs out in the summer, and it is a matter of days before Rakitic signs a deal with La Liga’s Sevilla. Needless to say, the Schalke board is not happy with Rakitic’s conduct
Dragging on his contract talks and the entire ordeal regarding Rakitic’s future in Gelsenkirchen has caused some discontent at Schalke’s club HQ. The Swiss-born Croat is likely to sign a deal with Spanish side Sevilla, and Schalke boss Felix Magath is not at all happy with Rakitic’s handling of things.
According to the Bild, Schalke wanted to sign a new contract with the 22-year-old, but Rakitic wants to go where the money is.
‘Since May his advisers have kept him at distance. This was his intent from the very start, to either make big money or to leave the club for free. I suppose that he wants to leave the club, but so far nobody has contacted us,’ said Schalke boss Magath of the Rakitic situation as reported by the Bild.
