Croatian actress Marija Skaricic, together with ten other actors, on Monday received the Shooting Stars award as part of the 61st Berlin Film Festival, which the European Film Promotion (EFP) organisation awards to talented European newcomers
"This is an excellent opportunity for meeting people from the film industry which otherwise I would have never met," Skaricic said before the award ceremony.
The ten young European actors were selected by a jury of established film industry professionals from a list of 25 candidates nominated by members of the EFP, which is comprised of film agencies from 32 European countries.
Skaricic was selected for her role in "Mother of Asphalt" directed by Dalibor Matanic.
The Shooting Stars programme, which is supported by the European Union, is being held for the 14th consecutive year. Another Croatian actor, Zrinka Cvitesic, took part in it at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival.
The EFP is an organisation promoting European cinematography worldwide, and the Shooting Stars programme is one of its initiatives. The Croatian Audiovisual Centre has been a member of the EFP since January 2009.
Previous winners of the Shooting Stars awards include actors like Daniel Craig, Daniel Bruehl and Rachel Weisz.
