Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Zoran Milanovic said during a visit to the coastal city of Zadar on Saturday that in democratic societies governments were not reshuffled in the last year of office.

"A government reshuffle is not undertaken in the last year of office. That's not done in democratic societies, although it's technically possible. (...) One or two ministers may be replaced, and Mrs Kosor obviously has her motives," Milanovic told reporters when asked to comment on media reports that Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor was planning to reshuffle her Cabinet and replace several ministers whose names were linked to corruption scandals.

On the subject of the Fiscal Accountability Bill, Milanovic said that it was "an irresponsible move by the government" because of the speed at which it was trying to push the bill through.

"That's yet another example of how things should not be done. Such a bill is normally proposed at the beginning of a government's term and not at its end, especially if it was proposed by the opposition only a year before," Milanovic said.
