Social Democratic Party (SDP) president Zoran Milanovic said on Friday he did not see why Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, according to the media, had sent a letter to the State Prosecutor's Office for information about media reports that her Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party was under investigation, adding that she knew the truth.
"As an informed person, she should know the truth," Milanovic said in response to requests from the press for a comment on media reports that Kosor had sent a letter to "relevant institutions" requesting information about media speculation that the HDZ was under investigation as a legal entity over allegedly receiving illegal donations.
Milanovic said responsible physical persons could be investigated and that only then could political parties be prosecuted.
"I believe Ms Kosor knows the truth and see no reason why she is writing to the state prosecutor," he said.
Asked if he saw this as political pressure on the judiciary, Milanovic said he did not.
