Prime Minister and Social Democratic party (SDP) leader Zoran Milanovic has said that the four-party ruling coalition will not make "insane promises" or any promises "that a clever child can see that it is impossible to deliver".
Before the start of a government meeting in Zagreb on Thursday, Milanovic said, while commenting on promises made by candidates running in the local elections set for this Sunday, and on the ongoing strike of cabin staff at Croatia Airlines (CA), that his cabinet was trying to ensure sound public finances, see to it that "everyone plays according to rules" and strike up a balance in incomes between employees in the public sector and public companies.
"We have stated on several occasions that we support a sensible approach, we fully respect methods of union action, but one should realise that the only alternative to changes on which we insist is going under. Going under means the air company will no longer exist, no one will buy it, no one will take over our air services," Milanovic said, emphasising his trust in the CA management.
