The newly-appointed head of the Department for the Balkans at the US State Department, Jonathan Moore, has said Croatia is an example of a country which successfully fights corruption, calling on other countries in the region, notably Bosnia and Herzegovina, to follow Croatia's example.
Croatia, which managed to prosecute former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, is a successful example of the fight against corruption and it is important to have more of these examples, Moore said in an interview with the Sarajevo-based Dnevni Avaz daily which hit the newsstands on Tuesday.
Moore, who until now was US Deputy Ambassador to Bosnia, is now in charge in the State Department for all former Yugoslav countries and Albania, with an exception of Slovenia. He said corruption had attacked all spheres of the society, adding that the United States, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was actively working with local judicial bodies and police agencies.
Commenting on the current situation in Bosnia, namely the formation of a new ruling coalition in which the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) is expected to be replaced by the Alliance for a Better Future (SBB), Moore said everything depended on how successful the new coalition would be in implementing reforms.
