The decision on what Nova Ljubljanska Banka (NLB) will do with its 10.75 per cent stake in Slovenia's biggest retail chain, Mercator, which the Croatian concern Agrokor wants to buy, will be made at its shareholders' assembly, the supervisory board of Slovenia's biggest bank decided on Tuesday.

Slovenian media say this likely means that the NLB, whose majority owner is the state, will not accept Agrokor's non-binding offer of EUR 221 per share made following an invitation by a consortium comprised of banks and the Pivovarna Lasko brewery selling a 52 per cent stake in the retail chain.

The decision on Mercator's future owners will be made by the new government, which is expected to be formed in February.
