With incessant precipitations over the last few days, levels of water in rivers and streams in northwestern Croatia raised considerably during the last weekend which was why, Croatia's National Protection and Rescue Directorate issued flood alerts for the areas around the capital of Zagreb and the city of Karlovac on 2100 hrs Sunday. Flood alerts were in force on Monday for many regions in the northwest of the country.
Traffic was interrupted at some of the local roads in the areas of Varazdin, in the Velika Gorica residential areas south of Zagreb as well as southeast of Zagreb in the basin of the Sava River. Also yards and cellars of family houses in dozens of villages and towns in northwestern Croatia were flooded. As a result of continuously inclement weather conditions, landslides were reported in a number of areas, including Zagreb. A landslide in the village of Vojakovacki Klostar damaged the railway infrastructure between Krizevci and Koprivnica, which was why this section of the railway route will be closed in the coming days.
Heavy rainfalls with the remaining show beginning to melt brought excess water into already swollen rivers that are threatening to break their banks. The wet weather is to set to continue into Tuesday and the rest of this week,
