Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in Brussels on Friday there were several countries in the European Union that recognised the huge importance of Croatia's EU accession for stability in the region, voicing confidence that Croatia's entry talks would be completed in June and that there would be no unpleasant surprises.
The Hungarian EU presidency will spare no effort to ensure that Croatia's accession negotiations are completed in June, Orban told Hungarian reporters.
He said there were many countries in the EU that recognised the huge importance of Croatia's EU accession for stability in the region and that he did not want Croatia's accession to be delayed for political reasons once Zagreb met the benchmarks for closing the negotiation chapters.
Orban voiced confidence that there would be no unpleasant news such as those for Bulgaria and Romania regarding accession to the Schengen Area, and that Croatia's entry talks would be completed in June.
Hungary included the completion of Croatia's negotiations among the priorities of its EU presidency, which ends in June.
