The Permanent Council of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) decided at its last meeting this year in Vienna on Thursday to close the organisation's Zagreb office after being present in Croatia for 15 years.
The OSCE said that its mandate in Croatia was successfully completed thanks to cooperation between its office and the Croatian government. All OSCE member states welcomed the decision.
The Croatian government was praised for successful cooperation in implementing housing programmes for returning refugees and in monitoring war crimes trials. The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, which is based in Warsaw, will continue providing support to Croatian non-governmental organisations in monitoring war crimes trials.
Croatia's ambassador to the OSCE, Neven Madey, thanked all the participants in the meeting for their decision.
