Minister of the Interior Ranko Ostojic said in the southern coastal town of Split on Saturday the police would investigate the circumstances under which former Environment Minister Mirela Holy's email to the head of state railway company HZ, Rene Valcic, was leaked to the public after Holy pressed charges.
"Mrs Holy was instructed to file charges like every other citizen after which an investigation would be carried out," Ostojic said after reporters asked him if the police would investigate how was the email leaked to the public in which Holy asked the head of the state railway company to keep the wife of a party colleague in her job and over which Holy resigned.
Reporters asked Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic of the Croatian People's Party (HNS) to comment on claims that Holy's resignation was initiated by the HNS. Pusic said she and four other minister did not come to Split today to talk about Holy, but to support Split Pride 2012 parade.
Holy resigned on Thursday, saying she was stepping down over the "political damage" caused by the release of the email she sent in March to HZ head Valcic.
On Wednesday, the national broadcaster published the email on its website.
Holy is the second minister of the centre-left cabinet to resign, after Transport Minister Zlatko Komadina resigned in April citing health reasons.
