Commenting on a possible introduction of bank taxes, a Deputy Prime Minister and vice president of the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS), Bozidar Pankretic, has said everything must be done to balance budgetary revenues and expenses, while the economy advisor to the prime minister, Sandra Svaljek, has said increasing any taxes would not be wise at this moment.

Pankretic told Croatian Television on Thursday evening, a certain level of fairness must exist "and given that we know how much profit the banks are generating and given the general situation in the financial sector, I believe that people will agree that banks too must give their contribution."

Svaljek, however, said that "all taxes are transferable in principle and in the end the burden of taxes would not fall on banks as they would transfer it to their clients."
