Businessman Hrvoje Petrac will not have to go back to prison for violating his parole, but the terms of his parole have been tightened up, a Zagreb County Court parole judge decided on Thursday.
Parole judge Zdravko Jambrovic found that Petrac had not observed the terms of his parole, but decided that his omissions were not such as would warrant revocation of his parole, a court spokeswoman said.
In order to stay out on parole, Petrac will have to respond to all summons from the parole judge and report every second Monday of the month to the Zagreb Police Department and the Probation Office.
Petrac has had his passport seized, and will not be allowed to leave Zagreb as his place of residence for more than one day without permission from the parole judge.
Police records have shown that while on parole Petrac travelled abroad as many as 20 times, even though the court had given him permission to make one trip to Spain and one to Israel for medical treatment.
Petrac was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for the abduction of the teenage son of retired army general Vladimir Zegorec and the extortion of money from businessman Miroslav Matkun.
