Bjelovar police have launched an investigation into the Pevec retailer on suspicion that the company's management committed economic crimes, police officials said on Wednesday declining to directly confirm if the company's owners, Zdravko and Visnja Pevec, have been arrested.
Spokesman for Bjelovar-Bilogora Police Drazen Medved told Hina that nobody had been formally arrested yet, but that the investigation meant that all suspects "have been or will be" brought in for questioning.
Medved confirmed that the police in Bjelovar, in cooperation with the State Prosecutor's Office, have launched an investigation into several top managers suspected of collar crimes in the Pevec Group.
According to unofficial sources, Bjelovar police first took in for questioning Zdravko Pevec and this morning his wife Visnja and a group of associates.
The police would not say what crimes they are charging Pevec managers with. Pevec retailer has recently declared bankruptcy.
The media speculated that Zdravko Pevec was facing charges for issuing promissory notes without financial backing.
Pevec officials declined to talk about the reasons for the investigation into the companies business dealings or the alleged arrests.
