Borislav Skegro, a member of the council of economic advisers of Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, has said that Gross Domestic Product should begin rising at the end of this year, warning that one or two quarters with a rise in GDP are not enough for economic upturn.
"GDP should start rising at the end of this year, and we are creating preconditions for a long-term growth on sound footing," Skegro said in his interview with the Croatian Television (HTV) prime time news programme on Saturday evening.
The expert said the current government had enough strength to make an economic turnaround and to offer a stable long-term growth.
He admitted that the economic situation was very serious, and added that all measures designed to bail out the economy should be perceived as a logical and consistent set.
"All those measures will be about how to manage public finance, increase economic activity and solve problems such as record-high unemployment in the last ten years," he said.
Skegro denied media reports about problems in his cooperation with Finance Minister Ivan Suker and Economy Minister Djuro Popijac.
He said he was cooperating very well with both ministers.
