The ruling coalition is firm as a rock, Croatian Prime Minister and Social Democratic Party leader Zoran Milanovic said on Friday evening during his informal conversation with reporters who covered the ceremony of the formal opening of the summer camp of European Socialist and Social Democratic parties' young activists in the Croatian coastal town of Savudrija.

"The ruling coalition has never been so strong and stable as now. The coalition is firm as a rock, only the circumstances in Europe are now quite different than they were during the term of the (Ivica) Racan government," Milanovic said before the opening ceremony.

Ivica Racan was the SDP leader and Prime Minister of the SDP-led governing coalition from 2000 to the end of 2003.

Opening the Savudrija event, Milanovic said that freedom, primarily freedom of choice united those who had arrived in the camp.

In this context he recalled that the Croatian parliament had earlier in the day passed the law on medically assisted insemination.

"The law, neutral on its surface, has triggered off a culturological war in Croatia," Milanovic said.

"We are trying to widen the space of freedom, the freedom of choice for every family, for every parent. If this can be Europe, then it is our Europe. This is the Europe to which I would like to bear witness in ten years' time," he said.
