Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic on Wednesday commented on statements by foreign officials questioning Croatia's readiness for European Union membership, saying that Croatia was now "nearly ready" and would be "completely ready" for membership by July 1 next year.
"This clearly follows from the progress report on Croatia. I will personally see to it in the coming months that the remaining conditions, which are clearly listed in the EU report, are fulfilled," Milanovic said at the start of a Cabinet meeting.
He said that the promises and guarantees that Croatia had received with regard to EU accession were absolutely clear. "If we finish our job, and we are working on it seriously, there will be results and I am not anxious about it."
