Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor has denied media reports that Croatian National Bank (HNB) Governor Zeljko Rohatinski is thinking of resigning after their meeting last week.

According to some Croatian Internet portals, during his meeting with Kosor last week Rohatinski made it clear that he was ready to step down following accusations against him by Goran Maric, an MP from the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).

During her visit to Moscow on Tuesday, Kosor told Croatian reporters that her talks with Rohatinski had been "very friendly".

She added that she had explained to Rohatinski that Maric's sharp criticism of the HNB in a parliamentary debate on the central bank's performance was his own position and that it was not the position of the HDZ.

Kosor described the cooperation between her cabinet and the HNB as excellent, and said that she highly appreciated Rohatinski.

The HNB declined to comment on the reports on the web portals.
