Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said on Monday it was illegal to have war crimes convict Branimir Glavas head the election slate of the regional HDSSB party at the coming parliamentary elections, because this party was not respecting the judicial authority, adding that the State Election Commission, chaired by the Supreme Court president, should deal with Glavas's candidacy.

"Even after the Supreme Court upheld the verdict against Glavas, this party showd no respect for the constitutional order or judicial decisions, and parties disrespecting the judicial authority are heading to an entirely wrong direction and should not be allowed to exist," Kosor told the press.

The participation of a war crimes convict in the elections, as the head on the election slate "would be a precedent in the political, legal and democratic practice," Kosor said.

Asked to comment on Slavko Linic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and his advocating the arrival of the International Monetary Fund in Croatia, Kosor said Linic had the courage "to say what Zoran Milanovic (SDP leader) can't - the real truth about their plan and programme."

She said the SDP wanted to bring the IMF to Croatia because "they have no plan how to resolve problems."

This means cutting salaries in the state and public service by up to 30 percent They are not saying this, but in his previous statements, Linic indicated this, as well as the plan to lay off 80 percent of employees in government and public services and introduce property taxes. This would mean that every citizen who worked hard for the past 40 years and built a country house would now have to pay property taxes. "We are against the introduction of such taxes," Kosor said. She recalled that Croatian war veterans and employees in the public sector felt what it meant to bring the IMF to Croatia between 2000 and 2003 when the SDP was in power and when their rights and maternity allowances were drastically reduced.

Asked if the HDZ had already launched the election campaign, given that election billboards have already been put up in some towns and to comment on GONG's claim that election campaign costs should be paid already now, Kosor criticised the nongovernmental organisation for not criticising the opposition coalition.
