Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said on Saturday that the government had made it clear to the farmers how much money they could get, and announced more unpopular measures to help the economy emerge from the recession.
"We have made it clear what the government can give at the moment. We can sign three billion kuna in all," Kosor said at an election convention of the youth organisation of her HDZ party.
Kosor said that the government would have to take new tough measures to get the country out of the crisis, stressing that such decisions would benefit the country and its people.
"It's time for the truth and not the time to sweep things under the carpet," Kosor said, adding that the government would not be deterred by any "attacks, accusations or threats."
The PM said that the government measures were producing results and that she was confident that before the end of the year Croatia would begin to feel the first signs of emergence from the recession and would complete its EU accession negotiations.
Kosor said that her government enjoyed the greatest public support in the last five years, citing the fight against corruption as one of the pillars of the government's work. She stressed that the fight against corruption should be relentless, "regardless of who belongs to what party."
Kosor called on all parliamentary parties to support the efforts of the government, and warned that an early election would only slow the country in completing its work in the EU accession process.
