Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic on Sunday issued a message offering his best wishes for Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Veterans Day, August 5, to all Croatian citizens, recalling that Croatia's flag which 18 years ago marked the liberation of the occupied areas was waving in Brussels today.
"Eighteen years ago, the Croatian flag on the Knin fortress marked the victory of the Croatian army and the liberation of the occupied areas. Today that flag is proudly waving in Brussels and Strasbourg. It follows our soldiers in peace missions around the world, setting a symbol of readiness to preserve values we opted for - freedom, peace, democracy and the rule of law," Milanovic said in his message.
On the occasion of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Homeland War Veterans' Day, high-level Croatian state delegations laid wreaths and lit candles in Zagreb's Mirogoj Cemetery on Sunday in tribute to all people killed in the 1991-1995 war.
The ceremony was attended by delegations of the President of the Republic, the Parliament and the Government.
