Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Saturday commented on the make-up of President Ivo Josipovic's team of advisers, notably his advisers on economic affairs, saying that "a parallel economy ministry is out of the question"

"The government is opened for cooperation with everyone, including a team of advisors made up of people representing certain companies. Everyone in power in Croatia must do their job within the frameworks of their constitutional powers. The government is in charge of the economic policy, we have the ministry and the economy minister and a parallel ministry is out of the question," Kosor said when asked if it was acceptable that the president's economic team includes representatives of private companies.

Kosor said this in the northern Croatian city of Varazdin where she attended the ceremony of marking the 20th anniversary of the local Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).

Commenting on other members of Josipovic's team, Kosor declined to comment on individuals, stressing that she could not understand that nobody in the presidents team had noticed that some advisors were not only suspected but also convicted of severe crimes.

"I personally, as well as the media and citizens had several big questions after the president announced the names of his advisors. It is not clear to me how it is possible that nobody on that team knew that one of the advisors is not only suspected but also convicted of fraud," Kosor said, recalled that some president's advisors that were not meant to be were suspected of tax fraud.

Commenting on national security advisor Sasa Perkovic, who had warned about the activities of intelligence underworld Kosor said she would request a report about this.

"I will request a report about media speculations regarding the intelligence services. We have to know this. The intelligence services must be independent and they must do their job professionally. People must not be under any political pressure and the intelligence services must not serve any party or individual. This must be the principle and I believe that President Josipovic and I will agree on that," the prime minister said.
