Croatia's Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic held separate meetings in Zagreb on Tuesday with Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic, the media relations services of the government and the parliament said.
According to the government's statement, PM Kosor met with the visiting Montenegrin president at the government headquarters. Vujanovic congratulated Kosor on the completion of Croatia's EU entry talks, after which the two officials discussed economic cooperation, notably in the energy sector and tourism, as well as ways to improve trade relations.
Vujanovic said that Montenegro's election legislation facilitated the election into parliament of members of the Croat minority and that significant progress had been achieved with regard to curricula for ethnic Croats.
Speaking of his country's bid to join in the Euro-Atlantic integration processes, Vujanovic said Montenegro expected Croatia's support in that. He said that he was aware that Montenegro's road to the EU would be long, and thanked Kosor for the translations of EU legislation which Croatia had given to Montenegro, which he said would help his country on that road.
Kosor said that Croatia had shown that the fight against corruption and reforms paid, offering Montenegro further assistance and cooperation in the process of accession to the EU. "You can count on our support," she told Vujanovic.
The Montenegrin President and Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic discussed political and economic relations between the two countries.
Underlining Bebic's personal contribution to the building of friendly relations between Croatia and Montenegro, Vujanovic described the countries' parliamentary cooperation as very good, stressing that it could serve as an example to the countries in the region.
"Montenegro wants the friendly relations with Croatia to continue developing through the strengthening of the economic cooperation, and in that regard, Croatian companies are welcome in our country," said Vujanovic.
Congratulating Montenegro on its successes on the road to European integration associations, Bebic said that Montenegro, as well as other countries in the region, could count on Croatia's help and support in the Euro-Atlantic integration process.
