Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said on Friday construction on the Peljesac Bridge in southernmost Croatia would resume next month and that the financial scheme had been completed.

"We have solved all issues pertaining to the Peljesac Bridge and the government's position is that the bridge should be built," she told reporters in Metkovic.

"This is the government's decision, unlike the SDP (Social Democratic Party), which is announcing that if they had the chance, they would stop all works, as they feel the bridge is unnecessary," Kosor said, adding that one should come to the area to see what the bridge meant for Dubrovnik-Neretva County and for Croatia.

Asked if the list of ambassadorial nominees received by President Ivo Josipovic was so bad that it should bother him, Kosor said she would suggest a meeting with the president for next week so that they could sit down "in peace", discuss each nominee and choose professionals who would best represent Croatia's interests. She added that every nominee on the list deserved to be discussed.

"Under the Constitution, that's a job done by the president of state or the government, and so it will be this time again."

She recalled that last September they agreed on the appointment of ambassadors and consuls without having the foreign minister previously submit a list of nominees.

"The government finds unacceptable what the SDP is announcing and asking. No opposition MP or party chief can ask that the government and the president stop working for the sake of their own ambitions," Kosor said, adding that opposition representatives had never been involved in the appointment of ambassadors or consuls.

Asked if this was about a deal between Josipovic and SDP leader Zoran Milanovic, Kosor said it was up to the public to reach a conclusion.
