The Bjelovar-Vukovar Police said in a statement early Thursday morning that a man and two women from the Pevec Group had been arrested on suspicion of abuse of office and enabling others to commit the same crime.
The arrested are a 55-year old man and two 48-year old women, the police said declining to reveal if the founder of the Pevec Group, Zdravko Pevec, and his wife Visnja were among the arrested, as speculated by the media.
Spokesman for the Bjelovar-Bilogora County Police Department Drazen Medved told Hina on Wednesday that the Bjelovar police, in cooperation with the State Prosecutor's Office, have launched an investigation into several top managers suspected of white-collar crimes in the Pevec Group.
According to unofficial sources, Bjelovar police first took in for questioning Zdravko Pevec and this morning his wife Visnja and a group of associates.
The police would not say which crimes the Pevec managers are accused of. Pevec has recently filed for bankruptcy.
The media speculated that Zdravko Pevec was facing charges for issuing promissory notes without financial backing.
Pevec officials declined to talk about the reasons for the investigation into the company's transactions or the alleged arrests.
