Police have not yet established what kind of an explosive device went off in Zagreb's main square early Wednesday morning or who planted it, and they do not rule out the possibility that it was a fireworks device, chief of police Goran Burusic told a press conference on Wednesday.
Burusic said that the explosion occurred at about 0230 hours and that no one was injured, but only one windowpane was damaged. He said that the police did not have a suspect or an eyewitness for now and that no one had been brought in for questioning.
It was a third explosion in Zagreb this month. 53-year-old Vojislav Blazevic has been remanded in custody for 30 days on suspicion of causing two explosions in a western section of the city two weeks ago.
"At this stage we cannot say that these cases are connected," Burusic said, asking the public for assistance in the investigation. He said that CCTV footage of the square and clues found at the scene were being examined.
