President and Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Ivo Josipovic and Defence Minister Davor Bozinovic on Saturday talked via video link with Croatian troops in international peace operations and missions in Afghanistan, Syria and Kosovo, wishing them the best in the new year, that they continue doing their job as well as possible and a safe return to their families after completing their mission, the Defence Ministry said in a press release.

Josipovic congratulated the Croatian troops on everything they are doing in international peace operations and missions, underlining the importance of participating in them for Croatia's international standing.

Bozinovic said 2011 would bring new opportunities for passing good decisions in the defence sector. He thanked all soldiers and officers on their commitment, saying the international community commended their work abroad.

Speaking of the 319 Croatian troops in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, Bozinovic said 2011 would be a crucial year for the mission, as transition from international to Afghan security forces would begin, as well as a year requiring additional efforts in the reconciliation process in Afghanistan.
