The rate of registered unemployment in Croatia dropped in May to 17.5 percent from 18.2 percent in April, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported on Tuesday.

May was the third consecutive month to see a drop in unemployment, which went down to the lowest level since September 2010, when it was 16.9 percent.

The trend of declining unemployment started in March and is mostly owing to seasonal employment in the tourism sector.

At the end of May, 298,719 job-seekers were registered with the Employment Service, a 3.3 percent drop from April, and a 0.8 percent increase in relation to May 2010.

While it dropped on the monthly level, the rate of registered unemployment on the year still remained higher than in 2010. In May last year, registered unemployment stood at 17.2 percent, or 0.3 percentage points below the unemployment rate in May this year.
