The Justice Ministry of Bosnia-Herzegovina has received a request from the Croatian Justice Ministry for the execution of the final prison sentence against Branimir Glavas, Bosnian Assistant Justice Minister Nikola Sladoje confirmed on Thursday.

"We received the request this week and it has been forwarded to the State Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina," Sladoje said.

Bosnia will act according to the regulations from the Croatian-Bosnian agreement on the execution of prison sentences.

In situations like this, the justice ministry of the country which was asked for assistance in the execution of the prison term is expected to forward the request to the territorially relevant court. However, in the case of Branimir Glavas, the request has been forwarded to the court in Sarajevo, even though Glavas's place of residence is in Hezegovina.

"The reason for that is that had Glavas stood trial in Bosnia for the crimes he was convicted in Croatia, the trial would have been held before the State Court in Sarajevo," Sladoje explained.

The State Court in Sarajevo was unable to confirm on Thursday if the request had arrived. Court officials however stressed they expected the request to arrive.

Glavas, who has been sentenced to prison for war crimes committed in the eastern Croatian town of Osijek in 1991, fled to Bosnia in May 2009, before the court of first instance in Zagreb handed down the verdict against him.
