The Croatian parliament on Thursday night ended a debate on a draft budget revision, with Finance Minister Ivan Suker saying that the government's budget revision was right, because there were no substantial objections to it during the debate.

"In believe we have failed to reach agreement on what should be done in terms of budgetary expenses, no one made any suggestions during the debate," Suker said, adding that he was willing to discuss proposals that would boost the economy and investment.

He also warned that one could not speak of the need to attract foreign investments and at the same time introduce new taxes.

The parliament also discussed and adopted a bill of amendments to the Law on the Execution of the State Budget for this year and a conclusion whereby the government proposes keeping budgetary expenses in 2011 and 2012 at the level set by this year's budget revision.

Under the bill on the execution of the state budget, instead of a previously planned HRK 28 billion, the government may take loans in the total amount of HRK 34.6 billion for the payment of debts due and the financing of the deficit. So far, the government has taken loans in the amount of some HRK 25.1 billion.

The parliament will continue its extraordinary session on Monday, when it is expected to vote on the items discussed.
