Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Zoran Milanovic said on Wednesday that an agreement reached by the government and commercial banks on how to ease the burden of borrowers who are paying back the Swiss franc-pegged loans was a solution proposed by bankers.

We would like to see the exact structure of interest rates on Swiss francs, so as to see the cost of the procurement of cash, costs of insurance, bank reserves, how much profit is being made, and that all of this is made transparent, the Opposition leader said.

Today's agreement is "a solution which suits banks, which I do not attacks, but it suits banks, The government seems not to be existing now after big words and unnecessary threats to banks a week ago," Milanovic said in the main offices of his party in Zagreb.

As usual, the government has done nothing, he said.

Asked about nominations for new ambassadors in several foreign capitals, proposed by the government to the President Ivo Josipovic, Milanovic said that this was yet another attempt by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) to put a cuckoo's egg in somebody else's nest.

Milanovic said that the appointment of new ambassadors was not a job to be done shortly before elections and that there was no need for that.
