Vladimir Seks, a vice-president of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party, said in Osijek on Saturday that there was no conflict between him and HDZ president Jadranka Kosor.
"The decision to expel Damir Polancec from the HDZ was made unanimously by the party leadership," Seks said when asked by reporters to comment on an article in a Croatian daily saying that he was the only one to have opposed the decision to remove Polancec from the HDZ membership.
Seks said the decision was made in line with the party's statute because Polancec, who is charged in three embezzlement cases, had made statements that harmed the party's reputation.
He dismissed media reports suggesting that there was a rift within the HDZ.
When asked to comment on the decision by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Osijek County Assembly to leave its coalition with the regional HDSSB party, Seks said the HDZ was following the developments.
