Parliament Deputy Speaker and vice president of the ruling HDZ party Vladimir Seks would not respond to a question from the press on Tuesday as to why he called former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader "Zorro the avenger" in mid-September, two months after Sanader allegedly used the same syntagm in a deposition to the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK).
"It's not my duty, I don't want to and won't respond to such questions," Seks told members of the press.
They reminded him that a month ago, commenting on former HDZ accountant Branka Pavosevic's accusations of slush funds in the HDZ, he said such untruths came from the HDZ's political enemies and that, when asked who they were, he said one of the arch enemies was "Ivo Sanader as Zorro the avenger."
The media recently reported that Sanader allegedly used the same syntagm when deposed by USKOK in July.
The press asked Seks if that meant that he had seen Sanader's confidential deposition, to which he replied: "I don't want to and won't answer such questions."
Asked if he was willing to say that to USKOK as well, he reiterated that he would not answer such questions. Asked why, he said it was not his duty, that he did not want to and would not respond to them.
Reporters also asked if he expected sanctions from the European Union if parliament passed a law invalidating legal acts of the former Yugoslavia and Serbia, to which Seks replied: "Nonsense. The government and the HDZ aren't afraid of any sanctions and that's all."
