European Union leaders on Friday decided to set a date for opening Serbia's accession negotiations in January 2014.
This decision was reached on the second day of a two-day EU summit in Brussels.
The European Council has decided to open the accession negotiations with Serbia, Council President Herman Van Rompuy said in a Tweeter message.
The first intergovernmental conference to this effect is set for January 2014 at the latest,
The Council of EU will adopt a framework for the negotiations in the meantime.
