Serbian nationalists rallied outside the head office of the European Union Delegation in Belgrade on Saturday in protest at the acquittal of Croatian generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac by the Hague war crimes tribunal on Friday, demanding that the government and president of Serbia suspend the process of the country's association with the EU and cooperation with the tribunal.
The protest rally passed without incident amid a heavy police presence, and several demonstrators threw toilet paper rolls at the EU building, local media reported. Protest leaders demanded that representatives of the Hague tribunal be expelled from the country.
"The Hague tribunal is an agent of the EU and Washington and is responsible for what is going on. The Dveri movement demands that Hague tribunal staff in Serbia be declared personae non grata and expelled from the country and that the process of Serbia's integration with the EU be suspended," Dveri activist Vladan Glisic said.
Protesters also called for a suspension of dialogue with Kosovo.
Meanwhile, fans of the Rad football club burned a Croatian flag during a First Division match against Hajduk Kula in Belgrade on Saturday, according to Tanjug news agency.
