Serbian President Boris Tadic arrived in Vukovar on Thursday for a day-long visit to eastern Croatia, during which he is scheduled to visit war crimes sites in the area and meet with representatives of Croatian war victims' associations and the Serb minority.
Tadic arrived aboard a ferry, donated by the Dutch government, which operates regularly between Vukovar and the Serbian municipality of Bac on the left bank of the Danube river.
He was welcomed by Croatian President Ivo Josipovic, Vukovar-Srijem County head Bozo Galic, Vukovar Mayor Zeljko Sabo and the Dutch Ambassador in Croatia, Stella Ronner-Grubacic. The Serbian president was also greeted with applause by about 50 residents of Vukovar.
The two presidents then proceeded to the Town Hall for brief one-on-one talks.
The visit is being covered by some 200 reporters and cameramen from about 40 media organisations from the region amid tight police security.
