Seven people were detained during the anti-government demonstration in Zagreb on Friday evening, the police said on Saturday.
Five were detained for disrupting the public peace and two for possession of objects that could be used to inflict bodily harm. Two of the demonstrators were detained by force.
The demonstration began at 8pm in Cvjetni Trg square in the city centre where about 1,000 protesters rallied to demand the resignation of the government. During their march through the city, they were joined by other discontent citizens. The police estimated the number of demonstrators at between 3,500 and 4,000.
Protesters came across government spokesman Mladen Pavic while he was in his car. One of the protesters recognised him and spat at him, while several others banged on his car.
The demonstration ended shortly before 11pm and the next one was announced for Sunday at 4pm.
