Slovenian companies and independent businesses owed the state EUR 803 million in back taxes as of 30 June 2012, according to Slovenian tax office figures which the government in Ljubljana published on Thursday without revealing the debtors' names.

The list comprises 14,662 subjects which owe more than 4,000 euros, the biggest single debt exceeding EUR 24 million.

More than EUR 700 million is owed by companies and the rest by independent businesses in back taxes and benefits.

The Slovenian tax office included for every debtor an estimate of the likelihood of the debt being paid, since many businesses have gone bankrupt or are subject to enforced tax collection.

The tax office estimates that about EUR 350 million could be collected.
