Croatian police have notified Slovenian police of the issue of an international warrant for the arrest of ex-Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader, after which Slovenian police have launched a search for Sanader, spokeswoman for Slovenian police Vesna Drole told the Slovenian news agency STA on Friday.
Drole declined to say if Sanader was possibly in Slovenia. She explained that in case Sanader was arrested in Slovenia, the police would first take him to an investigating judge who would then decide on his possible extradition to Croatia.
Croatia and Slovenia have signed an extradition agreement.
Media speculate that Sanader could be in Austria, London or on his way to the United States. It is certain that he left Croatia at 1110 hours Thursday via the Croatian-Slovenian border crossing of Bregana.
