The Croatian Trade Union of the Unemployed (SNH) has launched a lawsuit with the Administrative Court against the Republic of Croatia - the Ministry of Labour and pension System over the ministry's refusal to register the union, union president Zlatana Perkovic told a news conference held outside the ministry's headquarters on Tuesday.

Perkovic explained that the registration was denied over the alleged contradiction, given that the name of the union contains the word "unemployed" and the ministry claims it should be registered as an association. The union said this was degrading.

There are over 300,000 unemployed in Croatia and we have the right to be organised in a union and we want the government to enable that, Perkovic said.
